long exposures

I’ve recently been very interested in taking long exposures at night by using a cable release cord, tripod, and lightmeter app on my phone. My first attempt with this technique was on Theodore Roosevelt Island, where I photographed horizon lines from various locations around the trail. Unfortunately, due to a crappy tripod, only one out of three photos on the roll was successful. After finally investing in better equipment, I shot another roll in the nearest alley around the corner from my house and found much better luck. One of my favorite shots was probably the final photo in this slide show, where I positioned my camera on the dashboard of my friend’s car and held my shutter open for about 5 minutes on our drive home; I was thrilled to see so many light streaks from passing headlights on the highway. I find it truly mesmerizing to capture so much motion in a single frame, and will definetly continue this type of photography in the future.
